Weekend Wine Playlist Two

I know our lives right now feel more like Groundhog Day than La Dolce Vita. When you live, work, and play in the same space, things can get a little routinary. But that does not mean we cannot enjoy life even when we are cooped up at home. One way to get out of the funk we are in is by giving ourselves something to look forward to during the weekends.

Weekend Wine Playlist Two is brought to us by Chie Gatchalian, a certified WSET Educator, L'Ecole de Bordeaux and a friend. Giving us a new rhythm this weekend like the collaboration of Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars entitled Uptown Funk. Yes, we love Bruno Mars.

Here are some bottles to help you slip into the weekend effortlessly, under P1,100 and less.

Glenelly Glass Collection Unoaked Chardonnay 2019

P870

Fridays usually signal the end of a long, busy, and complex week. What better way to relax and unwind than with a nice bottle of rich and luxurious white wine?

Glenelly Glass Collection Unoaked Chardonnay delivers on each of those points. Aromas of citrus, melon, honeysuckle and pear permeate the nose and on the palate it just sings with a crisp acidity and rich mouthfeel. Enjoy on its own or while grazing on a platter of soft, mild cheeses at home. No cooking required.

Villard Expresión Reserve Pinot Noir 2017

P1,100

Once you have suitably recovered from the busy work week, Saturday is usually the day to spend some time whipping up something in the kitchen. Nothing complicated. Maybe a nice roast chicken or even a baked salmon.

I find that these comforting meals are best served with a red wine that’s not too bold and heavy. Villard Expresión Reserve Pinot Noir is exactly the bottle to go to for these kinds of pairings. Ripe red berries, currants and cherries are present on both the nose and palate. This Pinot has a juicy finish that perfectly complements the flavors in some of your favorite weekend dishes. A good way to cap off a slow Saturday at home.

Soalheiro Alvarinho 2019

P1,000

Of course all good things MUST come to an end. Before you know it, it’s a Sunday once again. No need to feel bad, though. Soalheiro Alvarinho is the ultimate “pick me up” to end your weekend on a high note. This beautiful Portuguese white wine is fresh and fruity with intense citrus and tropical fruit aromas and flavors. Sip on it with a platter of fresh oysters while you watch the sun set on your perfect weekend at home. If this does not get you in the mood for the new work week, then we don’t know what will.

Cheers to the weekend, everybody!
