Savory, Briny, Oceanic

The descriptor "salty" is the hottest buzzword in the world of wine today. Often used by sommeliers or seen in professional tasting notes. This new flavor in wine is natural and something we like as it adds another mineral complexity. We assure you that no winemaker is adding salt during vinification and doing the Salt Bae move in the cellar.

It is attributed to the specific vineyard soil or the inherent geolocation of the plot. A volcanic, chalky and famous Kimmeridgian marl soil of Chablis, can certainly lead you in tasting saline or oyster shell character. A nearby sea which has influence on the growing conditions of the grape can add an oceanic note to the wine. Acidity plays a factor as well - a high acid wine can create a salty sensation on the palate.

Here below is a three-pack sampler on how the above factors come into play across various regions to create delicious examples of salty wines. This should make your palate stimulated to find this new sensation.
